You may have heard of the term CAVOK when describing weather conditions. This is an abbreviation term used in METARS The term stands for “Ceiling (or Clouds) and Visibility OK”

CAVOK is used when the following conditions apply:

#Visibility is more than 10 km (9999)
#No clouds below 5000 feet or below the highest Minimum Safe/Sector Altitude (MSA) which ever is the highest
#No Cumulonimbus (CB), precipitation, Thunderstorms (TS), Snowstorms (SS), Dust storm (DS), Shallow Fog (MIFG), low drifting dust, sand or snow
#No Significant Weather (NSW)
